Smell is always a big source of stress for me too. Hotel rooms are small with no fan, and the the whole room winds up smelling no matter what or how much I spray. Also I will not stay over at anyone else's house since the smell is far too embarrassing
I could not believe how well it worked even for my non-DS DH! It takes a second or so but it really worked!!! It just removes the smell. No perfume smell, nothing!

What happened to all the exhaust fans right?!! So the whole room winds up smelling because there's no where for it to go! I've only used it a few times, we went away for the weekend and had a small room and the bathroom faced the bed! I was very skeptical but it really worked! I put it on the back of the toilet and it took a few minutes but by the time I was done the smell was gone, even the smell of the freshner I used as a back-up! Even my husband was shocked. I didn't need to keep it on all the time, I left it on about 5 mins. or so after I was done and that's all it took.
I tried eevrything and they just cover it up, this actually get rid of the smell. It was worth every penny!
There is something about a hot steamy shower that seems to catch the stink particles and allow them to be pulled out the fan or window. The proper diet and shower method has been my method. I shared a tiny cruise ship toilet with my sis-in -law and that's what worked for me. Plus I had hospital strength room deodorizer, LOL
When I gave my daughter a sleep over at a hotel I brought some candles along. The big bath and body works kind. I had a cheap fresh linen one from Walmart. I lit it as soon as we got into the room because it makes the hotel room smell nice and a little aromatherapy. Well thats my excuse anyway. So of course if you leave the room or go to bed blow it out. Once you wake in the morning to do your morning routine (poo, shower, etc.) you can light the candle again and light a few more matches while boo-booing this always pulls the funk for me and then I'll spray my favorite air freshener then hop in the shower. The smell will most likely be gone by the time you get out.

I've been living with my boyfriend since 8 months post-op. For the first year we shared a bathroom, since then I've had my own. It makes things nice.
That said, we travel a lot .. ugh.
The BIGGEST thing for me when I travel is eating compliance. I stick to very low carb and high fat, no sugar. I find that helps with the issues because the carbs/wheat are what cause the stink (for me).
My boyfriend is actually one who says that he dislikes most of the air fresheners because then it's just flower covered poo smell. He thinks the smell dissipates better and is less noticeable if I don't spray stuff.
I use Dove Go Fresh body spray for my scent eliminator. It works wonders and I can wear it too so it's less like "oh she just did something nasty and sprayed to cover it up." But, I also agree with the take a shower right after because the smell of your bodycare plus the steamy shower helps.
Also, remember that your smell is particularly noticeable to you and at the same time, you may think it's gone but it isn't. I can go into my bathroom and think, "oh it's fine" but my boyfriend will come in and say "whoa!" ;)
I highly recommend exhaust fans and open windows. I also travel with chlorox cleaning wipes and rubber gloves so I can wipe down the toilet if I need to. It's extreme but ... I don't like this aspect of my surgery so I take my prep seriously.

Believe me, I understand this! I met the man I am in a relationship with 3+ years ago in Ireland. Since we live on different continents, our first trip together was in Australia. Part of that was in a hotel in separate rooms, but the last part was at his house. I took Innermint (company went out of business, sadly enough), which is an internal body freshener. Any of the chloryphyll internal body deodorizers may hel*****t. In addition, I used matches in the bathroom. The sulfur from lighting a match (not a lighter!) takes our industrial strength smell and makes it much less. Use a courtesy flush to flush the crap away as soon as possible. I also have used a cinnamon spray after lighting a match and flushing.
With a bathroom share, it might be difficult to get away with using the toilet and showering before he needs to use the bathroom. The matches and the courtesy flush has helped minimize the smell, in my experience.
Best wishes! Have fun. This is one small issue and only lasts a few minutes.

Start lighting matches the moment your butt hits the cold toilet seat - before anything even comes out. Take a piece of aluminum foil to toss them on. Most men won't mind the smoke smell as much as a perfumey smell. Also taking charcoal capsules (starting at least a day before the trip, will help. The thing with those is that you should take them 2 hours before and after your vitamins. But for one special weekend it won't matter too much. They sell them at Walmart, Walgreen's, etc. I also agree with the "use humor" and "give advance warning" advice.
want to go downstairs for coffee or the paper or something (unless you leave while he's still asleep). Use the restroom in the lobby or near conference meeting rooms. They are usually pretty empty -- especially early in the morning. I hope this helps! Try not to fret too much. I just went on a cruise with my boyfriend and relied on Ozium for the little bathroom, but it was still pretty funky. LOL Have fun!
